Stretton Kart Circuit Review November 2023

Well the good run of weather had to end and we did tempt fate. The meeting had been publicised two months earlier as a chance to run in the warm, late-Autumn sunshine! It could not have been more different; it was cold and wet. Oh, and it could not have been more fun either! For most of the day the winding Stretton track was covered in a mixture of rain, wet leaves and oil from an early spill.

Yes, it kept lap times down but brought out the skill and fun of driving sideways through nearly every corner. Faces remained peppered with both grime and smiles all day.

It was great to run with some new drivers on track, especially our latest pilot Jane Mills … more lady drivers please. True to form, Mark Underdown, fresh from his World Championship success, held the Maybug Medal aloft to the cheers of everybody in the crowd … with the exception of his son George whom he had beaten to the rostrum by a half second. It was all in good fun with Chris Kaminski winning the ‘Piston Broke’ trophy with an unfortunate early retirement in his stunning new ERA build as the engine let go but sure he will be back soon.

The biggest encouragement was the number of visiting guests who had travelled from far-flung corners of the UK to see CycleKarts in the flesh. Lots of questions were posed and many detail photos taken, which will hopefully result in another generation of running Cyclekarts next year.

Thanks to everybody who turned up to compete or watch, making it a very friendly meeting. Additional thanks to Chris and Stefan for selflessly performing their official track duties throughout the day and Stretton Circuit for their efficient marshalling.

All in all a really great event to close the CKGB season and a real buzz about the hobby which is all we can ask for!

Get building this winter and see you in 2024
