We have a World Champion!

The World Championship table is run every year by Carlos Carneiro in the U.S.A. It is a light hearted tally of a number of events attended through the season and from each event points are awarded and submitted across the pond. It is a great way to unite the Cyclekarting community on a global scale and literally anyone can win.

In 2022 Chris Loader, Loader, Loader, was crowned the “World Champion” after what can only be described as a truly worthy win as he has literally driven up and down the country to attend pretty much every event on the calendar - well done that man!! We asked Chris to reflect on the season and his achievement.

What Does it feel like to be World Champion?

Well ...Firstly,  last season I finished fourth and I was more than chuffed with that!! Especially as that was my first full year in Cyclekarts. I attended all the meetings, events and shows and I know that it is all just a bit of fun, but it’s still great to have been recognised for being involved in the events and the worldwide CK community.

When I got the news, it was November 5th Bonfire night evening. I had watched a sea front firework display and been out for a meal at Lyme Regis, Dorset.

I was away with friends, staying on a campsite in our caravans. (Poor Wi Fi signal). We were having a few drinks and I received a Whats App text from Andy Boulton  “So that’s it then – You are the World Champion”. He then sent me an exert from Facebook of his post ..... “He has only gone and done it .....Chris Loader is this years World Champion ..... and such a well deserved win , well done that man"

I couldn’t quite believe it, don’t think it sunk in that weekend. Few too many lemonades ..hic.. Didn’t help!!

I have to say, I didn’t think the Top spot would find it its way across the pond, as our own Jim Tanner came within a point or so of taking it last year but unfortunately lost the slalom event.

So...doing all the events, travelling up and across the country has certainly kept me busy and very entertained, especially with the ongoing tweeks / changes / maintenance. Plus the social side of Cyclekarting, especially when stopping over has been amazing fun.

I was slightly disappointed to blow the engine at the last event of the year at the Whilton Endurance in October 22, but only very briefly, when you consider that same Chinese Loncin 196cc lump has been in my car untouched, for two seasons, barring regular Oil changes and one spark plug replaced. That’s pretty good in my book, can’t complain at that. Not with my treatment (Big Foot) of the little Austin.

Plus, we have had more Sprint/Speed events this year (Sywell, Lundy Beach and Corona Speed challenge) which have meant Max revs (if the CVT will allow) guaranteed to take their toll on a humble generator/lawn mower engine.

Apparently it was doing the Corona speed challenge that helped cement the championship for me, according to Carlos on Facebook.

Big, Big Thanks for all the Support, encouragement and friendship of my fellow Cyclekarters from CKGB and for those that know…I knew there was a reason why I carry so many spares in my Van!!

Can’t wait for the 2023 Season :)
