Santa Pod “Dragstalgia” Review 2024

“Dragstalgia” is a high-profile vintage style event at Europe’s premiere drag-strip at Santa Pod. The venue also has a large tarmac “stunt-arena” and this was our location for a great weekend of action.

The event itself included three days of action on the strip with an amazing array of drag racing cars and bikes. This included many demo runs with funny cars, top fuel dragsters, jet-cars etc. It was also great to see many of the old racers that started off the sport in this country. To complete the vintage theme, there was a “wall-of-death” with vintage Indian motorcycles, a fair, a beer and cider festival plus live bands. Therefore, the Cyclekarts complemented the event wonderfully.

The track was set up on the Friday ready for the weekend. It was a tarmac oval with an alternative water-splash to one of the straights. However, during the night there was a large storm and the track markers and flags were strewn all over the place! Additionally, the arena was now a mass of deep standing water, so It was more like Santa Puddle than Santa Pod!! It took a while to sort this mess out but by 11:00 we were active and razzing round our track. However, there was one large persistent puddle which was located on alternative route for one of the straights! This made for some fantastic photos, but any drivers taking the “watersplash” route were thoroughly drenched! Activities included general driving, pursuit racing and a sprint. There was also a lunch break each day so that we could view the drag racing car displays and the action on the strip. It was also a chance to have a look round the various trader’s stalls.
